Transport for New South Wales announced that, following planning approval, the construction stage one of the Parramatta Light Rail will start by the end of 2018 and the construction and operation contracts are scheduled to be awarded in the third quarter of this year. The final cost will be known once contacts are signed.
The business case for stage two is due to be completed by late 2018.
For the LRT line, which will connect Westmead to Carlingford via Parramatta CBD and Camellia, the Government allocated AUD 1 billion (USD 754 million) and is estimated to be put into service in 2023.
“Parramatta Light Rail will connect major Western Sydney precincts for the first time and make it possible for people to ‘turn up and go’ to employment, cultural, entertainment and sports destinations,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
