PLN 3.93 billion (EUR 896 million) is the approximate EIB’s amount for the extension of Warsaw metro Line 2. The total value of the project is PLN 7.9 billion (EUR 1.8 billion) and consists in the construction of a 16.4 km section, 14 new stations and a depot in Mory. The project also includes the acquisition of 59 new metro rolling stock units of which 37 pieces of rolling stock will be used for the Line 2 and 22 pieces will replace existing ones used on the first metro line.
Warsaw Metro intends to use a mix of funding from the EU (Cohesion Fund), the EIB and its own resources.
In October 2015 Warsaw Metro announced the selected contractors for the planned line sections. The Turkish consortium Gulermak “submitted the best bid” for the construction of stations to the west of Metro Rondo Daszyńskiego. It tendered an offer for PLN 1.15 billion (EUR 274.35 million).
For the east section, the lowest bid was submitted by the Italian consortium Astaldi SpA, of PLN 1 billion (EUR 254.3 million). To the east about 3.12 km of new track will be built.
According to the tender documents the construction of the new stations should take no longer than 38 months and could be completed by 2019.
