Wabtec Corporation has finalised a contract with TRANSAP, a prominent rail logistics operator in Chile, for the supply of four C30ACi locomotives. The procurement is part of TRANSAP’s fleet modernization strategy aimed at supporting its operational growth and enhancing service efficiency.
“This investment ensures our fleet is prepared to meet the increasing demands of our customers and supports the country’s logistics infrastructure. These new locomotives reflect our commitment to delivering efficient, safe, and sustainable rail services,” said TRANSAP Chief Executive Eric Lobo.
The C30ACi locomotives represent the first AC-traction units in TRANSAP’s fleet. They will primarily be deployed under a long-term agreement with ARAUCO, a global leader in the forestry industry, to transport freight across Chile’s Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE) rail network to key destinations.
“TRANSAP plays a vital role in South America’s economy through its rail operations,” said Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec‘s President and Regional Leader for Latin America. “The addition of the C30ACis to their fleet will provide the efficiency, reliability, and operational cost benefits required to meet customer demands and navigate the region’s complex rail network.”
The C30ACi locomotive is equipped with advanced AC traction technology that enhances pulling capacity while supporting lighter axle loads. The model’s individual-axle traction-control system maximises tractive effort, effectively doubling the workload compared to traditional DC locomotives. Additionally, the locomotives are engineered to perform on railways with sharp curves and tight clearances, making them well-suited to the EFE network’s challenging conditions.
Delivery of the new locomotives is scheduled for 2026.
