UP acquires a transload facility in Phoenix

Union Pacific Railroad, through its Loup Logistics Company subsidiary, has acquired Phoenix transload facility in Arizona, from the Precision Components Inc. (PCI Reload).

The deal was completed on December 30, 2021, and offers transloading, storage and trucking solutions to customers shipping into and out of the Phoenix market.

“PCI Reload helped fuel Arizona’s economic growth by offering transloading, inventory management and final-destination shipping for a variety of industries. We believe Loup is well positioned to continue the PCI Reload tradition of exceeding customers’ expectations,” Hal Owens, the president of PCI Reload said.

PCI Reload is a premier transload facility located in the heart of Phoenix. The 100+-acre Phoenix transload facility includes 125,000 square feet of covered storage and a 5 km rail capacity served by Union Pacific Railroad. The facility processes over 8,000 rail cars and 38,000 trucks annually.

The facility has 8 rail sections with a 150+ car spot capability and is equipped with handle a variety of products such as bulk feed grade (grains, feed supplements) and bulk food grade (malted barley, flour, corn starch, whole corn), bulk plastics, forest and steel products, palletised materials and roofing products, ingots (aluminum, zinc) and copper (cathode, anode). The facility benefits a fleet of trucks and trailers (flatbeds, end dumps, pneumatics, vans) and is situated close to I-10 and I-17 for convenient distribution across the Southwest.

Loup is a wholly owned subsidiary of Union Pacific and owns and operates 25 facilities across the western half of the U.S.
