Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure, Volodymyr Omelyan, and Henrik Hololei, the EU Commissioner for Mobility and Transport, agreed to start preparations for the Ukrainian-European transport dialogue, which should be held in February 2018. During the meeting, there were discussed key objectives of the National Transport Strategy of Ukraine, the development of Ukrainian-European cooperation in railway, aviation and road sectors, the implementation of European experience in improving road safety and the development of digital infrastructure, including strengthening of the cyber security of the transport sector.
Henrik Hololei said that he supports the reforms being implemented by the Ministry of Infrastructure and emphasized the crucial importance of adopting infrastructure legislation aimed at European integration. The parties agreed to join efforts to accelerate process of transposing the European legislation into national legislation.
During a visit to Brussels, the Minister of Infrastructure met with Christian Danielsson, the Director General for Neighborhood and Enlargement at the European Commission (DG NEAR). The parties agreed to expand cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in particular, on the preparation of pre-feasibility-study of those infrastructure objects that are potentially interesting to foreign investors. “We are planning to carry out this work in November and coordinate these projects with international financial institutions and donors, so that investors would have a complete framework for assessing investment opportunities,” Volodymyr Omelyan said.
The Minister of Infrastructure presented Ukraine’s vision of expanding transport network with the countries of the European Union and the development of border infrastructure.
