Ukrainian Railways launched a tender for the purchase of gondola wagons, financed by loan from European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and by company’s own funds.
The estimated cost of the project is USD 260 million and tendering for the contracts is expected to begin on February 19, 2018.
Last year, Ukrzaliznytsia announced that intends to purchase 1,500 freight wagons and company’s strategy involves the procurement of 7000 freight wagons, self-discharging cars and open wagons.
In addition, by 2021, the company estimated that USD 6 billion investment is needed for the modernisation of country’s railway sector. Within the strategy, USD 4 billion should be invested for the acquisition of new rolling stock and the modernisation of the existing fleet.
Also for the modernisation of the existing fleet, the company intends to purchase 30 Evo locomotives from GE Transportation, and negotiations are on-going on the localization of locomotive production in Ukraine.
