Transport group UCL Holding is ready to acquire a controlling stake in Russian intermodal freight operator TransContainer, according to the Russian press. RZD currently owns a 50% stake plus 2 shares in TransContainer. UCL wants to buy no less than 50% + 1 share in TransContainer, subject to certain conditions. Among the conditions are the transparent sale procedure and market value of shares, the existence of a stable tariff policy of RZD for a period no less than the period of recoup of investments, and minimizing the risks associated with TransContainer’s exit from RZD.
UCL also considers an alternative, whereby RZD would remain a co-owner of TransContainer. In this case, the controlling stake could be acquired through the purchase of a part of RZD’s stake and part of the shares owned by pension fund NPF Balgosostoyanie.
