TX Logistik has expanded its rail freight traffic in Sweden by doubling the food train services from 10 to 20 per week, on Bro (Stockholm) – Malmö route. The increased services between the two important Swedish cities started in April.
The services are provided for Swedish retail chain Coop to supply foodstuffs to the supermarkets in the south of the country.
The central warehouse in Bro, 30 km north-west of Stockholm, is the start and destination of the train services. On the way to Malmo, the trains make a stopover in Alvesta near Växjo, in southern Kronoberg County.
The higher frequency enables Coop to weekly transfer 520 trucks from road to railways, bringing benefits for both the environment and safety.
By Coop transporting its goods by rail, the Swedish group says it saves up to 9,600 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year compared with road transport.
The expansion of TX Logistik‘s existing business in Sweden emphasizes the progressive implementation of the Mercitalia Group‘s European expansion strategy, in which TX Logistik plays a leading role.
The transport solution developed for Coop demonstrates the level of efficiency and quality that the rail system has now achieved. Even for goods that were previously transported almost exclusively by road, a more extensive use of rail is now possible.
Since 2018, TX Logistik, which is part of Polo Mercitalia, had been carrying out the national transport services in Sweden by its own rolling stock fleet due to a new licence and safety certificate issued by the Swedish Transport Agency. The approval was the base for the development of company’s international transport service under Polo Mercitalia brand.
Under its first plans, TX Logistik is operating the inner-Swedish routes between Trelleborg, Malmö and Eskilstuna, as well as Trelleborg, Malmö and Aasta and, of course, Bro and Malmö.
