Chinese locomotive manufacturers CSR Corp. and China CNR Corp. are analyzing the possibility of acquiring a controlling stake in Bombardier Inc.’s train business, according to a source familiar with the matter, Financial Post writes. Purchasing Bombardier Inc.’s rail business would give the Chinese companies an international presence and build on their surging export business.
Deliberations are still in the preliminary phase, and the Chinese companies have not yet reached a firm decision concerning the acquisition. Any potential deal would take place after CNR and CSR complete their announced merger, the source added.
Bombardier may obtain up to EUR 4.9 billion if it decides to sell its rail unit.
