Tver Carriage Works (TVZ), part of Transmashholding, and Federal Passenger Company (FPC) signed a long-term contract for the supply of 3,730 single and double-deck cars. The first firm order is for 2,644 cars with an option for additional 1,086 cars. The value of the contract is USD 3.6 billion (RUB 237 billion), excluding VAT.
The contract, which will take place between 2019 and 2025, envisages the development, design, manufacture, testing and certification of the new cars.
“We will update almost a quarter of the existing car fleet of FPK. The 7-year contract for the procurement of new rolling stock will improve the quality of passenger transport,” Peter Ivanov, the general director of FPC said.
The contract was signed during the III Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev.
It is planned to organize the production of the existing model cars and for new-model cars, which will be designated as “Wagon-2019”, “Wagon-2020”, “Wagon-2023”.
The cars of various types will be split into compartments, or will be open-type cars, will have special staff places, restaurant cars, cars with seats, and also fundamentally, the new cars will form Push-pull trains.
“The contract is of exceptional importance both for TVZ and for the transport industry as a whole. It will not only ensure the utilization of the plant’s production capacity, but also create conditions for comfortable travel,” Andrey Solovey, general director of TVZ said.
We remind you that in 2018 the two companies agreed on the supply of 293 cars and in 2017, a RUB 10.6 billion (USD 161 million) contract was signed for other 106 double-deck cars.
