TÜV SÜD Danmark has won contracts for two sections of railway line linking Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. “We are very happy that we won the contract and can participate in this project as an inspection and testing organisation. Our role in this project will strengthen our position as a reliable partner on the Scandinavian market”, says Lars Brockhoff, CEO of TÜV SÜD Danmark.
For the construction of the “Ostlänken”, the East Link project, between Stockholm and Linköping, TÜV SÜD Danmark will verify that the hazards and risk management is in compliance with all safety requirements. This is done within the scope of the “Common Safety Methods (CSM)”. The double-track section from Stockholm to Linköping will be 154 km long, including 25 km of tunnels and 155 bridges. The train will be operated at speeds upwards of 320 km/h, thereby cutting the travel time between Stockholm and Gothenburg to a mere 2 hours and 30 minutes. The construction of this line is scheduled to start this year, and it should be completed by 2028. “The line also lays the foundations for the intended European line between Stockholm and Hamburg”, Brockhoff said.
Another contract involves the Västlänken” project (West Link), for which TÜV SÜD Danmark will act as Notified Body (NoBo) verifying that the project fulfils the criteria for conformity with the European requirements. The Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI) are to ensure the safety and compatibility of the technology and systems used in European rail operation. The West Link is planned as an 8-km double-track section, 6 km of which will run underground, through a tunnel. The project also covers the construction of 3 sub-stations. The objective of the new railway is to make destinations in Gothenburg and in western Sweden easier and faster to reach in the future. The whole network is planned to be completed in 2035.
