Tunisian Railways buys new locomotives

Tunisian National Railway Company (SNCFT) has mobilized 167 million Tunisian dinars (approximately USD 75 million) from a pool of banks headed by Attijari Bank of Tunisia, the local subsidiary of the first Moroccan banking group. The credit whose interest rate has not been given, will have a maturity of two years, with two years of franchise.

The resource thus contracted should enable the railway undertaking to finance the acquisition of 20 locomotives for the transport of phosphate, ordered from the American company Electro Motive Diesel. The other banks participating in the project are the National Agricultural Bank, the International Bank Union, the Tunisian Bank Company, the Bank of Tunisia and the International Arab Bank of Tunisia. In 2016, these banks granted a total of 33.4 billion Tunisian dinars to the economy.
