Tunisia receives 60 freight cars

Tunisian Railways received 60 freight cars for grain transport, manufactured by Chinese company Baotou Beifang Chuangye, under a USD 4.5 million contract.
The new wagons will be used for the transport of grain on two lines, which connect Tunis and Bizerte, in the north, and Ghardimaou in the northwest.
Currently, Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens transports 1.5 million tonnes of merchandise of various kinds a year, of which, 370,000 tonnes of grain and food products.
Company’s rolling stock fleet counts 2371 wagons with a total capacity of 72,000 tonnes with an average daily capacity of 12,000 tonnes. 78 wagons are put into commercial operation for grain transport, with a capacity of 3120 tonnes.
Tunisian Railways operates 36 freight trains a day, of which 6 trains on the Tunis-Béja-Ghardimaou and Tunis-Bizerte rail routes.
