Trenitalia launched EUR 2.7 billion EMU tender

Trenitalia has published a tender for the procurement of 250 new electric multiple units valuated at EUR 2.7 billion. 1st October is the deadline for receipt of tenders or requests to participate.
The tender consists of two lots. The first lot envisages the delivery of 150 EMUs able to run at speeds of 160 km/h. The minimum guaranteed quantity is for 38 trains, of which 19 units is the initial order. The contract is estimated at over EUR 1 billion excluding VAT.
The second lot includes the supply of 100 EMUs capable to run at speeds of 200 km/h, with a total value of EUR 1.62 billion. Minimum 22 trainsets will be ordered with the signing of the framework agreement.
Under the two lots, the winner will also deliver maintenance services for a period of 15 years, with an extended option for another 10 years and delivery of spare parts for 23 years.
The duration of the framework agreement is 48 months, which may be extended for a further 24 months.
The framework contract will have a minimum duration of 48 months, with options to extend the agreement for up to 23 months.
Price is not the only award criterion and all criteria are stated only in the procurement documents.
