Trenitalia and Hitachi Rail Italy signed a EUR 1.6 billion framework agreement for the supply of 135 diesel-electric regional trains, which will enter commercial services in 2021.
The new trains will be built at the Italian plants in Pistoia, Naples and Reggio Calabria, where the new high-capacity Rock trains are currently in production.
The framework agreement provides a guaranteed minimum of 70 trains which will offer high quality transport services thanks to the new and innovative train concept.
the new trains will improve passengers’ comfort and will offer greater technical reliability and punctuality.
The framework agreement is part of company’s EUR 4.5 billion investment for new and modern trains that involves 500 regional Rock and Pop trains, already in production and will start operation in 2019.
