Trenitalia awards Hitachi Rail a maintenance contract

FrecciarossaTrenitalia and Hitachi Rail signed a contract for integrated logistic support for the ETR 500 Frecciarossa high-speed fleet of 59 trains.

The contract value is EUR 152,8 million and has a duration of six years. The contract also includes an option for two more years.

The contract for the integrated logistic support provides the management of the repair service and the management of the spare parts and train components through the optimisation of the inventory stock levels and delivery of materials within 48 hours. This allows to further increase the availability and the efficiency of the high-speed operations in Italy.

The ETR 500 trains, commercially renamed as Frecciarossa in 2008, can travel up to a maximum speed of 300 km/h on the Italian high-speed lines.

“We are delighted that Trenitalia has put its confidence in Hitachi Rail once again through this contract as proof of our continuous and positive collaboration. In a very difficult time that we are all experiencing, we are proud of the commitment and efforts of all our teams to guarantee the continuity of our and our customers businesses” said Edoardo La Ficara, Executive Officer, Operation Service & Maintenance Division, Hitachi Rail.

Hitachi Rail has a wide experience in the high–speed service and maintenance activities from the maintenance contract on the ETR 500 to the full service contracts on the ETR 1000 and ETR 700.

In 2020 Trenitalia and Bombardier Transportation agreed to continue the deliveries of new and repaired components and spare parts for the ETR 500 trains. With a six–year extension option, the contract involves the provision of 120 different components including new, repaired and overhauled items.

Also last year, the Italian rail transport operator signed a EUR 797 million contract for the delivery of 23 Frecciarossa 1000 very high-speed trains to operate the Spanish rail network under the Intermodalidad de Levante (Ilsa) joint venture.
