Russian Post awarded Transmashholding a contract for the supply of 107 mail cars, which will be delivered by the end of this year.
The new freight cars will be produced by Tver Carriage Building Plant and will be designed to run at speeds of 160 km/h, operated by freight and passenger trains on Moscow-Vladivostok route.
The new cars will be supplied under a trilateral agreement concluded between the Post of Russia, TVZ and VTB Leasing under the terms of a financial lease.
According to the contract, TVZ will supply 83 model 61-4505 cars and 24 model 61-4504 cars.
According to the results of a public auction, the cost of purchasing cars, including lease payments, amounted to about RUB 3.7 billion (USD 54.6 million).
All cars will be equipped with monitoring system that allows to track their technical condition in real time. They will be produced using modern eco-friendly materials.
In 2015, TVZ delivered Russian Post the first 50 modern model cars, and another 10 cars were ordered in 2016. Last year, Russian Post received 45 mail cars from TVZ.
After the fulfillment of the contract, by the end of 2018, the total car fleet of the Russian Post will be 819 units.
