TMH and FPC unveil a new passenger car concept

Russia’s Federal Passenger Company (FPK) and Transmashholding have presented a modular non-compartment car concept at Adler station.

The open space car for long-distance trains is planned to replace the traditional coaches. The new car has the same number of seats, but they are ergonomics and designed with a radical change. The idea is to combine the usual arrangement of the seats and the compartments with modular sections. The new concept put together a traditional layout, convenient areas for family trips and large spaces for passengers with disabilities.

Compared with the original version, the layout has undergone several changes. The length of the lateral sleeping shelf has increased by 20 cm and the, the sleeping area was changed, including the arrangement of individual lighting devices. In the service area on the wall panels, soft linings are installed for easy standing access.

“As part of a long-term contract with Federal Passenger Company to purchase modern rolling stock, we seek to provide our passengers more comfortable and convenient trips. This new concept has already received positive feedback from the passengers,” said Deputy Director of FPC Konstantin Torubarov.

In turn, Alexandr Loshmanov, Commercial Director for Passenger Transport Development at TMH said that “when finalizing the layout, we took into account the passengers’ opinions, as they are of fundamental importance.”

According to a survey, 99% of the respondents agreed the proposed design, while 88% liked the comfort of conceptual design.

The mock-up will be displayed at the International exhibition TransRussia, to be held in April in Moscow, and then at Kazan station in Moscow. In addition, during this year, the two companies will present and demonstrate the new concept at other stations suchs as St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Tver. Two more interior concepts for non-compartment cars in the form of full-size models will be presented and, based on the feedbacks, a concept will be selected and will enter mass production process.
