The first container train on Minsk-Riga route, traveling from Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province in central China, has arrived in Riga on November 16. At the same time, it is the 1,000th container train shipped from Xi’an International Trade and Logistics Park, Latvian Railways announced.
The train arrived to Riga only two months after the president of Latvian Railways, Edvīns Bērziņš, signed a cooperation agreement with Xi’an International Trade and Logistics Park. The train will be further shipped by sea to the ports of Germany and Finland.
“The partners have evaluated our capabilities and capacity and we have met their expectations, as the train run through Latvian territory within 12 hours. Thus, our joint project, with Belarusian railway, the Minsk-Riga express train, has been successfully tested for long-distance container transport service,” Bērziņš said.
According to the company, in the same day, Riga Port has received more than 260 containers from the Port of Rotterdam that will be shipped to China. The containers were transported also on Minsk-Riga express route. For Riga port, it was the first time when simultaneously handled the unloading the containers from China and to China.
