The fourth and final section of the Algiers tramway line supplied by Alstom and the Mediterrail consortium was inaugurated on 14 June.
The 23 km-long line connects the district of Ruisseaux with Dergana and comprises 38 stations. It can transport up to 100,000 passengers per day. Alstom has supplied the city of Algiers with an integrated Citadis tramway system including 41 Citadis tram sets, the stations, the operating equipment including the control station and technical management, communication and surveillance equipment, signalling, the track partly supplied with the tracklaying system Appitrack, the power supply including substations and the overhead contact line. Alstom has also supplied a workshop and necessary equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of the trams. Alstom is responsible for the maintenance of the line and its 41 trams for a period of 10 years.
”This line, eagerly awaited by the population of East Algeria, will greatly improve the quality of life in the city while helping to reduce pollution and congestion in the centre of Algiers,” said Wahida Chaab, Project Director for Alstom.
