Thales wins new signalling maintenance contract in Spain

signalling system maintenanceAdif has awarded Thales a EUR 26.9 million contract for signalling system maintenance and traffic management system installed on the rail section between Lérida-Barcelona and Sants-Figueras on Madrid – Barcelona – Figueras high-speed line.

The contract will be implemented within 48 months and will guarantee railway operability, the optimal state of the facilities and their availability, efficiency and functionality, as well as the reduction of the probability of incidents.

With this contract Thales is responsible for signalling system maintenance as well as the telecommunications systems equipment in service on more than 1,700 km of lines of the Spanish high – speed network. This covers seven railway lines including those linking Madrid to the French border, Seville, Santiago, Valladolid, Toledo, as well as those linking Cordoba and Malaga, Antequera with Granada or the tunnel that goes from Atocha to Chamartin. In January 2022, Adif AV awarded Thales a EUR 8.6 million contract to modify the ERTMS L1 and L2 installations and the energy system in the Madrid Chamartín station area. The works are expected to be completed in 30 months to adapt the new high-speed routing.

In October 2022, Adif AV and Thales signed a EUR 11.6 million contract for the design and installation of the signalling system for the 1.7 km section between Almodóvar del Río and La Marota that links the Madrid – Seville high-speed line with Cordoba – Malaga.

Thales is responsible for the preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance of the signalling and telecommunications systems deployed with the goal of preserving the nominal operating conditions of all the systems and thus avoiding interruptions in the commercial operation of the lines, as well as guaranteeing the maximum reliability and life of the equipment deployed in the field. “The maintenance services we provide on the different Spanish high-speed lines allow ADIF to guarantee the proper commercial operation of these lines, as well as to know the status and correctly maintain all the assets of its installed base, guaranteeing and extending their life cycle,” said Eduardo Mariscal, Director of Transport Customer Services at Thales in Spain.
