TfL reveals Crossrail train design

Crossrail trainTransport for London (TfL) has revealed the design of the new Crossrail trains that will be put into operation in 2017.
The length of Aventra trains is 200 m and are able to carry up to 1,500 passengers. Key features of the new high-capacity trains include air-conditioning and interconnecting walk-through carriages. On-train passenger information systems will deliver real-time travel information to allow passengers to plan their onward journeys. The Aventra trains have been designed with an emphasis on energy-efficiency and the use of intelligent on-train energy management systems.
“It’s fantastic to think that these sleek new trains will soon be transporting millions of people across our great city and beyond. They’re feature packed, eye-catching machines that showcase the best of British design and engineering. They’ll add vital capacity to our rail network and will help to ensure our economy continues its onward journey full-steam ahead,” Mayor of London Boris Johnson said.
In February, Transport for London and Bombardier signed the EUR 1.6 billion contract to supply 65 Aventra trains. The contract also includes maintenance provision for the fleet of trains. Bombardier will support the maintenance of the new fleet, based on its strong track record of supporting train operators throughout the UK at 31 sites and employing 1,800 personnel.
