Joint Stock Company RB Rail AS has announced an open competition “Design Guidelines for Rail Baltic/Rail Baltica Railway” for which proposals to be submitted by 3rd March, 2017.
The purpose of the services is to provide engineers a standardized approach to Rail Baltica design, which will be mandatory for design, construction and operations of the Rail Baltica infrastructure and will be endorsed by respective national authorities, if applicable.
Rail Baltica is the largest infrastructure project in the Baltic States to date and it envisages construction of a new, EU gauge double-track electrified railway line (Tallinn – Riga – Kaunas – Warsaw) to eliminate the technical bottleneck due to the gauge differences (1520 vs.EU 1435 mm). This project is part of the TEN-T North Sea-Baltic corridor. The procurement and subject matter is co-financed by Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
We remind that in November 2016, DG Mobility and Transport (MOVE) launched a tender for a service contract regarding a study on the business case of the Rail Baltic project and setting up a Rail Baltica business network in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Finland.
The study to set up a Rail Baltic business network will support the business case and the future use of the Rail Baltica high-speed railway line connecting the three Baltic States with Poland and Finland. The project co-funded under the Connecting Europe Facility to bridge a major missing link in the TEN-T. the deadline was December 2016.
