Uzbekistan Railways announced that construction works are well underway for the Sergeli and Yunusabad metro extension in Tashkent. Boshtransloyiha, the research and design institute for transport and respective infrastructure, is the projects’ developer.
The USD 170.1 million Sergeli line will have have 7.1 km served by 6 stations. Since the beginning of construction, the specialists have been working intensively, according to the schedule. The new metro line is aboveground constructed and is planned to be completed in 2020.
Yunusabad section will have a total length of 2.93 km and is planned to be completed at the end of 2019. The value of the project is USD 124.8 million.
In addition, in May 2017, the President of Uzbekistan signed a resolution on the construction of a railway ring – Ring metro Line. Boshtransloyiha developed an aboveground metro line envisaging 52 km and 35 stations that will have connections with the existing, under construction and planned underground metro lines. This overhead metro line will pass through Yashnaabad, Yakkasaray, Uchtepa, Shaikhantahur, Almazar, Yunusabad, Chilanzar and Sergeli districts of Tashkent. The project, which is expected to be completed within 4 years, has a total cost of USD 422 million.
Tashkent Metro, the first underground transport system in Central Asia, has 3 lines totaling 36.2 km, served by 29 stations.
