Tallinn to purchase new trams

The city of Tallinn plans to launch a tram tender for the acquisition of 8 new trams, with an option for 15-20 additional vehicles.
According to Deniss Borodits, the chairman of management board of city’s public transport company, Tallinna Linnatranspordi, the 2019 investment plan was approved which highlights the acquisition of new trams and 100 new natural gas buses.
“We are currently waiting for a final confirmation from the city and then we are planning to approve the procurement announcement in the management board by December 1 the latest. We have currently formed a procurement committee, which will put together the package, and then the procurement will be announced,” Borodits said.
Over EUR 19 million is the estimated cost of the 8 new trams, with an average of EUR 2.4 million per vehicle, Enno Tamm, the director of Tallinna Linnatranspordi said. Based on the estimation, the total value of the new 28 trams is around EUR 67 million.
City’s newest trams were delivered during 2015-2016 by CAF. In total, 20 Urbos AXL trams were put into commercial operation on Tallinn’s tram network.
