Czech railway infrastructure manager, SŽDC, started the installation of the European Train Control System on a connecting route of country’s Rail Transit Corridors I and II from Přerov to Česká Třebová.
AŽD Praha will carry out ETCS installation which is expected to be completed in 2020.
The project includes the installation of separate parts of the ETCS system, remote optical cables and related technologies as well as the GSM-R system. On the Přerov – Česká Třebová line, non-switchable balises will be installed at stations. Three new control centers will be constructed.
The project aims at deploying ETCS Level 2, Baseline 2.3.0d or higher on the Přerov to Česká Třebová section on a total length of 108 km, which is part of the Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor.
The ETCS Přerov – Česká Třebová project has a total cost of CZK 386 million (EUR 15.2 million), of which EUR 12 million is covered by the CEF.
The project is important for ETCS deployment on the Core Railway Network in the Czech Republic, which aims at creating a comprehensive operational arm both in terms of traffic management and in terms of vehicles circulation.
ETCS will be introduced on the lines on which speed can be increased over the current limit of 100 km/h, and with the purpose of installing GSM-R technology.
Deployment of ETCS L2 within the Czech rail infrastructure, which forms part of the Trans-European conventional rail network, will increase interoperability and safety on European Core Railway Network.
The implementation of the project correlates with the planned ETCS L2 deployment in the sections Petrovice–Breclav (TRC2), Kolin–Kralupy nad Vltavou (excluded) (TRC1) and Kralupy nad Vltavou–Decin CZ/D state border (TRC1). This will gradually create conditions for interoperable connection of Austrian, Slovak, Polish and German railway lines via the Czech Republic.
