Správa železnic, the Czech rail infrastructure manager has announced that the 2022 rail investment programme worth CZK 53 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) and covers the modernisation of the railway lines, junctions and stations, including dispatch buildings, the preparation of high-speed lines and increasing safety at level crossings.
Following maintenance works, which are a priority, “we will also focus on the preparation of the high-speed plan, that will connect us with Europe and bring great economic benefits,” the Minister of Transport Martin Kupka said.
The key construction projects which will be implemented include the modernisation of the rail corridors through the reconstruction of Pardubice junction (on the Praha – Brno mainline), Ústí nad Orlicí – Brandýs nad Orlicí line which is a bottleneck on the Rhine-Danube RFC, or the renewal of Velimí – Poříčany railway line.
“SŽ will execute the modernisation works between Brno and Blansko which requires traffic suspension for the entire year as three projects will be implemented along the line. In addition, SŽ will open the new and modernised sections on the Rail Transit Corridor IV between Sudoměřice and Votice and Soběslaví and Doubí, which included the construction of a 28.7 km new tracks and seven stops.
The most important ongoing projects include:
- The upgrade of the 6.7 km Adamov – Blansko section and Brno – Maloměřice St. 6 – Adamov, on the Brno – Blansko corridor;
- The modernisation of Pardubice railway junction;
- The installation of ETCS and DOZ between Votice and České Budějovice;
- The renewal of Velim – Poříčany rail line;
- Double tracking works on the Pardubice-Rosice n. L. – Stéblová section;
- The reconstruction and modernisation of Ústí nad Orlicí – Brandýs nad Orlicí, Mstětice – Prague-Vysočany, Sudoměřice – Votice and Soběslav – Doubí lines;
- Plzen, 5. construction – Lobzy – Koterov covering reconstruction works at Plzen-Koterov station;
- The reconstruction of Vsetín station covering the new track layout, platform works, the construction of an over-level access for passengers, two new underpasses and a new building.
Under the 2022 rail investment programme, SŽ will start the preparation for 300 km of high-speed lines and will announce the results of the architectural competition for the high-speed terminal in Roudnice nad Labem during the first quarter of the year. The company will also prepare the technological provision for the high-speed lines which is related to the market analysis and the subsequent provision of technical solutions and licences for the required infrastructure works.
SŽ will also continue the modernisation and reconstruction works for 53 station buildings which are in various stages of development. Major renovation works will be carried out at the České Budějovice, Pilsen and Pardubice stations, while repair works will be completed in Beroun, Písek or Veselí nad Lužnicí. In 2021, the railway infrastructure manager completely reconstructed 73 station buildings. The financial costs spent on construction and maintenance projects exceeded CZK 2 billion (EUR 82.4 million).
This year, SŽ will invest CZK 2.4 billion (almost EUR 100 million) for the modernisation of level crossings and improved security completing the works for 150 crossings across the country.
