Minnesota Metropolitan Council awarded Aldridge-Parsons Joint Venture the USD 194.4 million systems contract for Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) project, which will operate on a route from downtown Minneapolis through the communities in south-western suburban cities such as St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden Prairie.
The systems contract includes the construction and installation of equipment such as overhead catenary lines, traction power, and communication systems.
“With the award of the systems contract, 97 percent of Southwest LRT contracts have been committed,” said Met Council Chair Nora Slawik.
The systems contract is second only to the nearly USD 800 million civil construction contract, awarded to a local joint venture Lunda/C.S. McCrossan in November 2018. The JV will build the double track, the stations and structures which include 29 new bridges, 6 pedestrian tunnels, 2 “cut-and-cover” LRT tunnels and the modification of 7 existing bridges.
USD 2 billion is the total estimated value of the project, of which the USD 929 million will come from the federal government.
Expected to start operation in 2023, the Southwest LRT will have a length of 23.3 km double track served by 16 stations.
