Within Sydney LRT project, a major milestone has been reached in the construction of the CBD and South East Light Rail, with the first 80 metres of tracks in George Street.
The tracks have been laid between Park and Bathurst streets, in front of Town Hall. This section will eventually become part of the one-kilometre pedestrian boulevard, once construction is complete.
The 18-metre individual lengths of track, which each weigh one tonne, will be laid progressively along George Street between Alfred Street and Rawson Place.
A total of 410 metres of track is in the ground along the length of the light rail route.
The new light rail is set to be complete and open to customers in 2019.
