Sweco has been commissioned to advise the Swedish Transport Administration on an upcoming double-track upgrade project, which will increase the capacity of the railway line between Ängelholm and Helsingborg. Sweco will prepare the tender documents for a design-build contract and will carry out site supervision. The order value for Sweco is approximately SEK 60 million (6 million euros).
The West Coast Line is an important passenger rail link in western Sweden and has double tracks along most of its 283 km. The Ängelholm-Helsingborg section is currently single track and is therefore a bottleneck. The conversion to double track will significantly improve rail traffic efficiency. Increased capacity will be achieved through more frequent departures, shorter travel times and improved punctuality. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2024.
Under the project, Sweco will prepare tender documents for a design-build contract, manage required permits, take inventory of necessary noise reduction measures for nearby properties, and carry out site supervision in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration and the future contractor for the Double-Track Ängelholm-Helsingborg undertaking. Sweco has previously produced a railway plan, environmental impact statement and project planning documents for the same railway section.
“We are pleased that the Swedish Transport Administration has entrusted us once again to provide our expertise for the double-track upgrade between Ängelholm-Helsingborg. This is a significant part of the West Coast Line, which connects Gothenburg and Lund, and we are proud to assist in increasing the capacity of this heavily congested section. This project showcases Sweco’s strength. We will be providing expertise in multiple areas – further proof of the strength of our full-service offering,” said Åsa Bergman, Business Area Manager for Sweco Sweden.
