Peter Spuhler, president of the Board of Directors of Stadler Rail, met with the prime minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, in Tbilisi to inform him about the company’s decision about building a local rolling stock manufacturing and repair facility and relevant works planned. The factory will manufacture new trains and train wagons as well as offer repair services. It will provide the Georgian Railway as well as the Tbilisi Metro with new rolling stock, and will also work on export orders.
Stadler Rail AG and the Georgian Ministry of Economy signed the relevant Memorandum of Understanding in June 2017. Upon the signing of the Memorandum, Stadler Rail launched the feasibility study of the Georgian market. At that thime, it was estimated that the construction of the factory could start by the end of this year.
