Stadler and Caltrain have solidified their partnership with the signing of a Technical Support and Spare Supply Agreement (TSSSA), marking a significant step in ensuring the efficiency and material availability of Caltrain’s growing fleet of electric multiple units (EMUs).
The agreement provides on-site technical support, maintenance management software implementation, full material management for both preventive and corrective maintenance, and diagnostic assistance. The TSSSA will cover all current and future Stadler EMUs operated by Caltrain.
Under the TSSSA, Stadler will employ a dedicated team of 14 specialists based in California. The contract also allows both parties to opt-in the future battery EMU pilot train into this agreement.
Caltrain’s partnership with Stadler began in 2017 with the order of 16 KISS electric train sets. This order was later expanded to 23 train sets, and the majority of the fleet, built by and delivered from Stadler’s Salt Lake City location, began revenue service in September 2024. These modern trains are a cornerstone of Caltrain’s electrification project, aiming to enhance sustainability and improve the passenger experience across the region.
