St. Fiden–Goldach railway line will be fully available again from 30 September, SBB announced this week.
After intensive construction work and the stabilization of the slope, the SBB was able to resume rail operations between St. Gallen and Rorschach on Monday, June 10, 2024. Due to the renovation work, rail traffic can only be operated on one track until autumn. There will be timetable restrictions. The route is expected to be fully available again from September 30, 2024.
Following the landslide near St. Gallen St. Fiden last Whit Monday, extensive renovation work is still underway. During this work, only one of the two railway tracks between St. Gallen St. Fiden and Mörschwil can be used for train traffic. This leads to various restrictions in rail traffic . SBB assumes that the route will be fully available for rail traffic again from September 30, 2024 and that the other restrictions will therefore also be lifted. The EC Zurich-Munich, which could only run between Zurich and St. Margrethen due to storms in Bavaria, resumed operations on July 1, 2024.
SBB thanks travelers for their patience and understanding. It recommends consulting the online timetable on sbb.ch or the SBB Mobile app before each journey. The adjustment of the online timetable is complex and will therefore be carried out in stages. The online timetable is adjusted until August 4, 2024. Further adjustments for the period after that are in preparation.
On Whit Monday, a landslide occurred near St. Fiden. The railway line between St. Gallen St. Fiden and Goldach had to be completely closed to rail traffic as a result. Since then, over 1,500 cubic meters of earth have been removed to stabilize the slope. The work was particularly challenging due to the difficult weather conditions and the difficult accessibility.
