Spain will tender the maintenance of over 420 trains

The contract will have a value of EUR 450 million, will run for a four-year period, and the organiser of the tender is RENFE, the passenger rail transport operator in Spain.
The maintenance contract will include over 420 conventional and high-speed trains, these being used on the Cercanías suburb network as well as on the intercity type network (Media Distancia). Maintenance operations will take place over four years, with the option of extending the contrct one more year.
The maintenance will take place in the RENFE workshops. The rail transport operator will ensure that a part deriving from these maintenance contracts is executed through joint ventures concluded with the winners of the tenders. The requirement is in accordance with specifications in the tenderbook. There should also be a reserve to carry out additional work.
The tender is divided into several lots, depending on the characteristics or series of trains, but also according to the workshops where the maintenance will be carried out.
Thus, RENFE calls for maintenance for the 104 series high-speed trains used on the Media Distancia network, but also for 40 conventional diesel trains and 360 commuter trains, including the Civia series. This tender also requires maintenance for doubledecker trains and for those in the 446 and 447 series, which practically operates across the entire Spanish territory.
The tender provides for certain obligations for the bidders, such as high reliability and availability of trains, especially at peak times, to provide the rail transport service “with full safety and a highest quality guarantee”, as required by RENFE.
