Founded by a royal decree in December 2014, Spanish Railway Safety Authority started its activity on 1st April 2015. The establishmend of the agency involved the cessation of the General Directorate of Railways. The Agency took over the responsibilities of the Directorate and its staff.
The financing of the Agency will be provided by state funds and from own revenues. The Agency will have autonomy and flexibility but will be a state control subject for efficiency and objectives achievement.
