South Africa will spend EUR 3.6 billion on commuter railway infrastructure

africaSouth African transport minister Dipuo Peters, said rail has been “widely” identified as the safest transport mode. To address the unacceptable number of people dying on the country’s roads, and to combat congestion, government is to spend R51 billion (EUR 3.6 billion) on commuter railway infrastructure over the next three years in a bid to move commuters from road to rail.
