The Romanian rolling stock manufacturer Astra Vagoane Calatori is the only bidder in the tender for the purchase of 18 new trams, organised by the municipality of Galati city, Romania. The acquisition is estimated at a total value of RON 100,656,000 (EUR 21.6 million). The allocated amount is 85% from European non-reimbursable funds, 13% from the national budget and 2%, from the local budget – the European financing being obtained through the Regional Operational Program – ROP.
According to the tender specifications, the new trams are required to have a low floor with facilities for a better access of people with disabilities and with reduced mobility, air conditioning for passengers, but also for the tram driver, passenger counting systems, audio- video systems, to be equipped with an e-ticketing facility, but also a passenger information system both inside and outside the new trams. The deadline set in the tender documentation is 16 months for design, production, testing and delivery stage, which is calculated after concluding the contract, with the specification that the first tram should be delivered within 10 months.
The specification also required that the maximum speed of the new trams should be 70 km/h and electronically limited to 50 km/h on certain sectors, with energy recovery at braking. Trams must have a high degree of reliability, low energy consumption and low cost for the entire lifetime.
They will have to have the capacity to accommodate 100 passengers, of which at least 30 seated.
The bid submitted is under evaluation and if validated, a framework agreement will be concluded for minimum 8 and maximum 18 trams. Also, it is mentioned that the new trams will have to be fitted with equipment that will not allow the departure with opened doors, as well as with an equipment for automatic switching.
