Solveo Energies has signed a 25-year contract to supply SNCF Voyageurs with green energy from wind power.
SNCF Energie, a subsidiary of SNCF Voyageurs, and Solveo Energies announced in a press release that they have signed a direct purchase contract for renewable electricity (Corporate PPA).
As a result of this long-term commitment, Solveo Energies undertakes to complete the construction of a wind farm and supply SNCF Energie with 32.5 GWh of renewable energy per year. The contract signed by the two parties also allows for the financing of the construction of this new wind farm, which started last summer and is scheduled to be commissioned in early May 2024. At the same time, the contract allows SNCF Voyageurs to reduce the dependence of its electricity supply costs on the volatility of open market prices.
Located in the Cher department, the wind farm developed by Solveo Energies will have three wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 15 MW. It will produce around 32.5 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of 6 780 households or a quarter of the total electricity consumption of a city like Bourges.
The proportion of green energy at SNCF Voyageurs will increase in the coming years
For SNCF Voyageurs, the production of this new wind farm is equivalent to the annual energy needs of Intercity trains on the Bordeaux – Marseille route or regional express trains (TER) on the Paris – Le Havre route. France’s state-owned rail operator wants to reach more than 560 GWh of energy from photovoltaic and wind power plants by 2027.
“This contract is a source of great pride for Solveo Energies. It symbolises our essential contribution to the energy transition of a large French company as emblematic as SNCF Voyageurs. As an energy producer, Solveo Energies is today marking a further step forward by adding value directly to the consumers of the decarbonised electricity produced by its plants. This makes us even prouder to be a historic and independent French company in the renewable energy sector, which has been working for 15 years to achieve this goal of selling without state aid to reputable and respected buyers,” said Jean-Marc Mateos, President of Solveo Energies.
