According to preliminary data, freight handling across the railway network of RZD reached 294 million tonnes in January-March 2016, 0.7% more than in the same period of last year. The freight turnover increased by 0.5% to 565.7 billion tariff tonne-kilometers.
Coal transport increased by 3.8% to 83.3 million tonnes, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 5.7% to 13.7 million tonnes, construction cargoes by 20.6% to 28.8 million tonnes, non-ferrous metal ores and raw sulfuric products by 5.9% to 5.1 million tonnes, timber cargoes by 2.6% to 10.4 million tonnes, grain by 7.8% to 5 million tonnes, and chemicals and soda by 0.9% to 6.5 million tonnes.
In March, freight handling increased by 2% to 105.1 million tonnes, while the freight turnover decreased by 1.2% to 197.7 billion tariff tonne-kilometers.
