Slovenia to buy 400 freight wagons

By 2025, the Slovenian rail freight operator SŽ-Cargo (SŽ-Tovorni promet) intends to procure 20 modern and powerful electric locomotives and 400 freight wagons. To modernize its rolling stock fleet, the refurbishment of the existing shunting locomotives is already underway and by 2021, 12 shunting locomotives will be refurbished.
Under the comprehensive modernisation programme, in 2017 and 2018, SŽ-Cargo acquired 100 state-of-the-art wagons of the Sggrrs series for the transport of ores. Compared to the previous wagons, they can be loaded with up to 20 percent more cargo, which means greater utilization and better quality for customers. In September, the operator officially took over the 100th wagon with the innovative RockTainer system. By using different components, the universal wagons enable the transport of various types of cargo. Using the new wagons, the unloading process is much faster than with the existing older wagons. The Sggrrs wagon with two containers has a load capacity exceeding the capacity of 2 older Tadds wagons.
Recently, the company has signed with CZ Loko a contract for the supply of four EffiShunter 1000 locomotives which will be used at Koper station. SŽ-Tovorni promet country-wide uses 37 shunting locomotives. They are used for forming of trains, the delivery and dispatch of wagons with customers, and also for hauling lighter trains on some stretches.
SŽ-Cargo offers comprehensive and intermodal rail freight and logistics services on the Slovenian transport market, as well as abroad. In 2018, SŽ-Cargo transported 21 million tonnes of cargo, securing a 98% of market share.
