Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded two civil contracts for the construction of five Jurong Region Line (JRL) stations and their viaducts.
Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co (Singapore) won the contract to design and construct a 4.3-km viaduct and three stations (Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West and Tengah stations). The contract includes addition and alteration works to the existing Choa Chu Kang station on the North-South Line, to integrate it with the new JRL station. USD 337 million (SGD 465.2 million) is the value of the contract.
Shanghai Tunnel Engineering was involved in the construction of Circle Line, Downtown Line and Tuas West extension, and is currently performing construction works for three stations and tunnels on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), as well as a stretch of tunnel from Woodlands Avenue 12 to the TEL Mandai Depot.
The joint venture formed by Eng Lee Engineering and Wai Fong Construction won the contract to design and construct a 3.4-km viaduct and two stations (Hong Kah and Corporation stations). The value of the contract is almost USD 200 million (SGD 274.3 million).
The construction works for these two contracts are expected to start in 2020 and expected to be completed in 2026.
The JV is currently involved in the ongoing construction of the TEL Mount Pleasant station and tunnels. Wai Fong Construction carries out construction works on the North-South Corridor between Victoria Street and Kampong Java Road, as well as the TEL Tanjong Rhu station and tunnels.
The JRL is 7th MRT line in Singapore and will be opened in three stages starting from 2026. The line will be 24 km long and have 24 stations, including three interchange stations, which will provide direct connectivity between the north-western and western regions of Singapore.
