PKP Cargo decided to exercise an option from a contract with Polish branch of Siemens Mobility to provide P4 periodic repair from 2023 to 24 for the acquired Vectron MS locomotives. Siemens Mobility will carry out the revision for the first 12 vehicles.
Between 2015 and 2022, PKP Cargo purchased a total fleet of 25 Vectron MS locomotives. The first 20 electric locomotives are in regular service and another 5 will be handed over in the first quarter of 2023. After nearly 8 years of use of the first locomotives, they will now need P4 periodic repair activities.
Since 2009, the Siemens Mobility service team has been carrying out maintenance and repair activities for Siemens locomotives running on Polish tracks. The team, which numbers nearly 60 people, operates from three locations – Warsaw, Poznań and Katowice. It services both vehicles Eurosprinter family, as well as the Vectrons. Siemens Mobility is also the first railway vehicle manufacturer operating on the Polish market with ECM certification in the area of locomotive maintenance.
Vectrons are the most modern universal locomotives on the European market, with a modular design that allows easy adaptation to the requirements of use and specific running
in different countries and different operating conditions. The locomotive was developed with a variety of transport tasks in mind. The basic premise for the construction of the vehicle was the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the traction tasks in national and cross-border traffic, both for passengers and passengers. and cross-border passenger and freight traffic in Europe.
To date, the Siemens Mobility service team has carried out P4 periodic repair for U4 (Hussars for PKP Intercity) and F4 for PKP Cargo locomotives. At the end of 2022, the company extended the contract with PKP Cargo to include the implementation of a complete revision of the first 12 Vectron MS locomotives.
“We are looking forward to developing our cooperation with PKP Cargo for the next few years, especially in the area of locomotive service, where we ensure the highest level of vehicle availability offered on the market. The revision of the 12 locomotives will be carried out locally, in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Siemens locomotive service and repair center in Munich Allach, where we have our service competence center at the Vectron locomotive factory. This will be the first complete overhaul of Vectrons in our country,” said Piotr Haremza, director of the service division of Siemens Mobility Sp. z o.o.
Polish railway operators and carriers have already purchased more than 100 modern Siemens electric locomotives (Hussars, Vectrons, Smartrons vehicles). They are used on a daily basis by Cargounit, PKP Intercity, PKP Cargo, DB Cargo Polska, Lotos Kolej, Freightliner PL and Laude Smart Intermodal.
