Ukraine holds talks with Siemens concerning the possibility of modernizing Ukrzaliznytsya’s rollling stock fleet, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said during a TV interview, Ukrinform reports.
“We have started negotiations with the German Siemens company to modernize the rolling stock operated by Ukrainian railway company,” said the official.
In September 2015, the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure announced that the ministry is seeking to attract international funds to modernize its locomotive fleet. The main lenders could be German banks and financial institutions.
Ukrainian authorities are collaborating with Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KFW) to attract EUR 50 million. The loan will be invested into locomotive comprehensive modernization works. Under the project, 10 2TE116 diesel locomotives and 20 ChME-3 electric locomotives would be modernized.
