Shanghai is planning to build a new rail link between the Hongqiao and Pudong airports, shortening the journey between them to around 30 minutes, writes shanghaiist.com.
The city is considering an “express Metro” link and a railway line, Sun Jianping, Chief of the Shanghai Transport Commission, said.
The airports are 45 kilometers apart and passengers can currently travel between them by taking Metro Line 2 all the way or by splitting the journey between Line 2 and the high-speed Maglev. The trip involves changing trains and can take up to 90 minutes.
Xue Xingong, an engineer of the China Railway Shanghai Design Institute Group Go Lid, said a fast Metro train could take around 50 minutes while a train could make the journey in as little as 35 minutes.
