Track construction for the second and third phases of Metro Line 13 will be completed by the end of May, Shanghai Shentong Metro Group announced. Trial operations are scheduled to start this year.
A more advanced track laying machine has been introduced to the project, increasing efficiency and safety. While traditional track layers can finish laying 33.9 meters of track a day, the new type of track laying machine can achieve 50. In addition, the new equipment doesn’t need to work on tracks itself, reducing the cost of installing supporting tracks and stands.
The second and third phases of Line 13 cover a length of 15.3 kilometers and 12 stations. After completion, Line 13 will stop at 31 stations starting from Jiading District to the Pudong New Area.
