“Within the next three years, 500 km of railway lines will be upgraded and will allow trains to run 120 km/h. The value of the projects that we are implementing is EUR 1.2 billion,”Serbian Minister of Transport Zorana Mihajlović said.
This year, Serbia put into operation 45 km of modernized tracks and for 2015 intends to complete the modernization of 100 km of railway network. “Our goal is to increase the railway market share in Serbia, from current 30% to 50% in the next decade,”the minister said.
According Ministry’s estimation, the volume of freight transport will increase by 100%, from 10 million tons to 18-20 million tons, and the revenues will increase from EUR 75 million to EUR 200 million per year.
