Serbia is seeking to step up the implementation of a loan deal with Russia signed three years ago, according to Serbia’s Transport Ministry.
This year Serbia plans to rehabilitate 167 kilometres of rail track using proceeds from the loan, transport minister Zorana Mihajlovic said during a meeting in Belgrade with the director of RZD International, Sergey Pavlov.
Zorana Mihajlovic also discussed with Sergey Pavlov the opportunities to accelerate the delivery of the remaining 19 Russian-made diesel trains out of a total of 27 that were to be procured under the loan.
In 2013 Serbia signed an $800 million loan with Russia for state-owned railway operator Zeleznice Srbije, covering 85% of the total costs of a $940 million rail upgrades plan.
