The Serbian government plans to start this year a project for the overhaul and electrification of the 100 km Dimitrovgrad-Nis railway line, in the country’s east, according to Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic. The project will include the construction of a bypass around Nis.
The overhaul and electrification of the railway line between Nis and Dimitrovgrad, at the border with Bulgaria, will cost 260 million euros, according to previous estimates. The European Union (EU) has already approved a EUR 75 million grant for the project. The remainder of the sum will be provided by the Serbian government and the EIB.
