Seattle: new milestone for Northgate Link extension

sound-transitSound Transit has announced that the mining the final of six tunnel segments along the Northgate Link Extension twin tunnels is completed. The completed work is part of the USD 1.9 billion Northgate Link project and includes 11 km of tunneling. Representatives say cross passages and other work is ongoing inside the new tunnels. The next steps involve works inside tunnels related to on of communications systems, rails and track beds.
The project will extend light rail network by 7 km from the University of Washington to a station adjacent to the Northgate Mall.
Construction began in late 2012 with demolition of the Roosevelt Station site, and Northgate Link Extension is scheduled to open for operation in 2021.
