Scotland: HITRANS unveiled the EUR 2.5 million station at Inverness Airport

Scotland airportThe Highlands and Islands Transport Partnership (HITRANS) has released plans for the proposed new station at Inverness Airport. Under the plans, every train on the Inverness to Aberdeen route will stop at the station.
The estimated value of the project is £2m (€2.5m) and could be opened in 2018 if funding is secured.
The group intends to try to raise about a quarter of the £2million bill from local public sector agencies, and will apply to the Scottish Government’s Scottish Stations Fund for the rest.
Under the first stage, a platform will be build on the north side of the railway, with a car pak on ground. The platform will accommodate high speed trains with five carriages and two engine cars.
The Phase 2 of the project involves the construction of a second platform and a double tracking.
According to HITRANS, this will be the second busiest station in the Highlands after Inverness.
“It’s predicted to become the second busiest station in Highland. The forecast growth, employment, and housing will make this a very obvious site for further development,” Frank Roach Partnership Manager said.
Inverness Airport is situated at Dalcross, 7 NM north east of the city of Inverness in Scotland. A railway station operated in Dalcross from 1855 and was closed in 1965.
